Pinkalicious loves the beach, especially when she finds a miniature mermaid named Aqua tucked inside a shell! Pinkalicious and her brother, Peter, promise to help Aqua the merminnie find her way home–after they show her all of the pinkamazing things to do at the seashore. From building sand castles to surfing in the ocean, the trio has a ton of fun, but at the end of the day they realize home is not always what you think it is.

The waves on the sea go up and down,

Fingerplay: Five Little Mermaids
(hold up five fingers and count down as mermaid disappear)
Five little mermaids swimming in a pool. (hold up five fingers)
The first one said, “This pool is cool.” (hug yourself and shiver)
The second one said, “This pool is deep.” (point downward)
The third one said, “I think I’ll sleep.” (close your eyes and rest head on hands)
The fourth one said, “Let’s swim and dip.” (do swimming and dipping motions)
The fifth one said, “I see a ship.” (look into distance with hand shading eyes)
The fisherman’s line went splish, splish, SPLASH, (make fishing pole motions)
And away the five little mermaids dashed. (quickly put hands behind back)
Alternate Five Little Mermaids fingerplay:
(hold up five fingers and count down as mermaid disappear)
Five little mermaids swimming near the shore.
One took a dive and then there were four.
Four little mermaids swimming out to sea.
One went for food, and then there were three.
Three little mermaids, “Now what shall we do?”
One swam away, and then there were two.
Two little mermaids were having great fun,
But one took a plunge, then there was one.
One little mermaid, “I like the warm sun.”
Away she went and then there were none.

Paint. Use your child’s foot to make a mermaid painting! Start with whatever color washable paint your child loves best for the mermaid’s tail: paint the bottom of your child’s foot and have them press it firmly down on a piece of construction paper. Once the footprint is done, draw in the mermaid’s upper body, hair, and face. Once the paint dries, glue on rhinestones or use glitter to make your mermaid shine!
